Shelly Shapiro began at Del Rey Books as Assistant Editor, after a stint as Editorial Assistant to Ellen Asher at the Science Fiction Book Club. Over the years, she worked with such authors as Anne McCaffrey, Arthur C. Clarke, Frederik Pohl, Larry Niven, Elizabeth Moon, and Greg Bear, until the Star Wars license was acquired by Del Rey and she took over responsibility for the Star Wars fiction line. About 4 years ago, she ceded her position as Editorial Director in favor of Editor at Large, which enabled her to give up her New York office and, in 2009, move to rural Maine, where she continues her Star Wars and McCaffrey (Todd now) responsibilities.
