Todd Johnson McCaffrey wrote his first science-fiction story when he was twelve and has been writing on and off ever since. His books include the Pern books “Dragon’s Kin”, the New York Times Bestselling “Dragon’s Fire”, “Dragon Harper” (all in collaboration with his mother, Anne McCaffrey), his solo Pern books, “Dragonsblood”, “Dragonheart”, “Dragongirl” and the non-fiction work, “Dragonholder”. His publications include nine short works (stories, novelettes, novellas) including The Dragons of Prague: a short story in the anthology Dr. Who – Short Trips: Destination Prague, one animated screenplay, and one novel-length Choose-Your-Own-Adventure type book. His most recent short, “Dragoncon: Trials and Tribulations” appeared in the 2008 Dragon*con anthology, Here be Dragons: Tales of Dragoncon. He and his mother have decided to collaborate once again, following on from “Dragongirl” with two books, tentatively titled “Dragonrider” and “Dragon’s Time.”

He has lived in Los Angeles since 1986.

Beyond writing, Mr. McCaffrey has developed board games, worked in the software industry, flown his own plane twice across the continent, served with the US Army in Germany, and will admit, when cornered, to having played Herr Drosselmeyer in the Nutcracker ballet many, many years ago. Mr. McCaffrey has also recently taken to writing non-fiction articles for Demand Studios.

He has a passion for “Are you a Werewolf?” and can often be found late nights in the Weyrfest room surrounded by medieval villagers.
